The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on June 12, 2026, notified Telecom Equipment Standards under Telecommunications Act, 2023.
The Central Government, in exercise of powers under Section 19 of the Telecommunications Act, 2023 read with Rule 5 of the Telecommunications (Framework to Notify Standards, Conformity Assessment and Certification) Rules, 2025, has notified new standards for telecommunication equipment.
The notification specifies two key standards issued by the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC). These include TEC 21061:2025, which provides the test guide for gNodeB (a key component in 5G networks), and TEC 66170:2025, which outlines generic requirements for outdoor weatherproof racks used in telecom applications.
These standards aim to ensure uniformity, quality, and compliance in telecom equipment, particularly in emerging technologies like 5G infrastructure. Stakeholders involved in manufacturing, deployment, and certification of telecom equipment are required to adhere to these notified standards.
These standards come into effect from June 12, 2026.
